Since the episode premiered the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously that federal law does not shield freight brokers from state lawsuits claiming they negligently hired dangerous motor carriers. The 9-0 decision determined such state-law claims fall within the FAAAA’s “safety exception”.
